Alejandra Rain Jiménez (age 12) has become a trailblazer for the Dominican Republic. She made history as the nation’s first figure skater to compete in the 2nd Latin American Regional Interclub Figure Skating Competition, held November 1-3, 2024 in Quito, Ecuador. Representing the Dominican Republic, Alejandra earned a silver medal, marking a monumental achievement for her and the country, as this was the first time the Dominican Republic participated in the Latin American Regional Championship for figure skating.
Alejandra’s performance in Quito was nothing short of mesmerizing. Some spectators described her skating as “pure poetry,” while others marveled that she “skates like an angel.” Her grace and skill on the ice captivated the audience, showcasing her artistry and inspiration to the competition. Moreover, Alejandra’s performance captivated the audience, who cheered enthusiastically and even asked for her autograph after the competition.
Alejandra’s silver medal and the heartfelt responses from the crowd underscore the impact she’s making not just in sports but also in showcasing the beauty and potential of figure skating for the Dominican Republic. Her achievements signify an important step forward in the Dominican Republic’s quest for International Skating Union (ISU) membership, an essential milestone toward Olympic eligibility.
Alejandra expressed her excitement and said she’s honored to be at the forefront of putting her country on the map in figure skating. “I’m so happy to make the Dominican Republic proud and bring us closer to the Olympic dream,” she shared.
The journey continues with a historic international figure skating development camp, which will be hosted by the Dominican Republic in Miami Beach, Florida, from December 9 to 10, 2024.
