Turner Theological Seminary (www.turnerseminary.com), a consortium member of the Interdenominational Theological Center (www.itc.edu), is accepting nominations and applications for the position of President/Dean. The President/Dean of Turner Theological Seminary (TTS) serves as the Chief Executive Officer, is the primary liaison between the Board of Trustees, faculty, students, administration, and alumni and is responsible for executing a strategic plan in alignment with the mission of the Seminary. The next TTS President must be an innovative and strategic leader capitalizing on the Seminary’s accomplishments since its founding. Beginning in 1894, Turner Theological Seminary remains committed to its motto “For a Prepared Ministry,” and delivers the vision to be “an institution for the preparation of young men and women for every department of Christian work.” TTS Graduates can be found in all areas of leadership within the church, colleges and seminaries as well as civic and political roles. 

The successful candidate should possess a doctorate or equivalent degree; demonstrate a record of successful leadership in an institution of higher education or non-profit; hold a knowledge and appreciation for the African Methodist Episcopal Church – its Mission and Core Values; exhibit a deep understanding of the issues facing higher education in general, and seminary education in particular.

TTS is particularly interested in candidates who present the following qualifications: 

• A terminal degree from an accredited institution. 

• Demonstrated record of successful executive leadership and comparable credentials and/or experiences sufficient to warrant the respect and confidence of the academic community. 

• Fundraising experience, an enthusiasm and skill for serving as the Seminary’s key spokesperson including established relations with corporations and foundations.

• Administrative leadership of organizations, ideally in higher education. The candidate must understand and embrace the central role of faculty, staff, and students within the seminary community and be personally engaged in the education process and student life experiences and activities. 

• Experience in managing the financial and budgeting operations of a complex unit or organization, preferably in higher education. 

• Respect for and demonstrated effectiveness working in a shared governance environment. 

• The President should be a visionary leader; experience working with a governing system and board is valued. 

• Ability to work effectively in partnership with other system presidents, system administration, and other partners. 

• Appreciation for various teaching modes including online learning in advancing TTS goals. 

• Experience in attracting and retaining strong, diverse leadership and supporting a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. 

• A personal enthusiasm for leading a growing, vital institution in a diverse and dynamic community.
