APRIL 18, 2022 — The Seventh Episcopal District of the AME Church announced today its “Resurrect the Vote” nonpartisan voter mobilization campaign to engage 50,000 voters ahead of South Carolina’s statewide primary on June 14.
“Voting is a civic sacrament under attack today by restrictive voting laws across the country,” said Bishop Samuel L. Green Sr., Presiding Bishop of the Seventh Episcopal District. “Through our Resurrect the Vote campaign, we will defend voting rights by ensuring voters across our state understand the importance of the statewide primary and subsequent general election in November.”
“Voters who participate in a primary are more inclined to vote in the general election of the same year,” said Rev. Stephen A. Green, Chair of Faith for Black Lives. “Black voters are a critical block of the electorate in South Carolina, so we are proud to partner with faith leaders to increase civic participation by engaging, educating, and empowering voters in this year’s elections.”
AME churches across the state will provide opportunities for members and attendees to “commit to vote” in the primary election by making a personal pledge to vote on or before June 14.
