AAMES Youth Gardening Contest
AAMES is hosting a Spring Gardening contest for A.M.E. Scouts this upcoming Spring 2021.
The Contest will begin on February 15, 2021 and will end on May 15, 2021
AAMES in partnership with the “AME International Health Commission” (Healthy Living Project) and “Friend of AAMES” (FAAMES) will the holding a Gardening Competition the Chair of the Competition will be Milton Chambliss (8th)
This competition is open to all AME Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts ages 6 -17
AME Scouts can participate as individuals or as Troops or Packs.
The contest will include three categories of gardens and prize levels:
- Apartment or confined garden: 1st Place $100 2nd Place $50 3rd Place $25
- Individual Scout outdoor garden: 1st Place $100 2nd Place $50 3rd Place $25
- Scout Troop or Pack – Community Garden: 1st Place $200 2nd Place $100 3rd Place $50
Youth are encouraged to begin to prepare early for entry into the contest. These are the steps participants should prepare to document with photos and a written account (date when each step occurred) of their progress from before planting through harvest:
- Decide what you want to grow
- Choose a location
- Plan your garden beds
- Invest in basic garden tools
- Test your soil
- Prepare the soil
- Choose the right seeds
- Plant with care
- Nurture your garden
- Enjoy your harvest!
