Southeast Alabama Conference Supports Hurricane Victims
By Rev. Tracey Horn, 9th Episcopal District
The Ninth Episcopal District believes in blessing others. Under the visionary leadership of Bishop Harry Lee Seawright, Episcopal Supervisor Reverend Sherita Moon Seawright, Presiding Elder David Earl Reddick and District Consultant Allie Bell Redick of the Dothan-Eufaula District, and Presiding Elder Johnny Rutledge and District Consultant Patricia Rutledge of the Ozark-Troy District, the Southeast Alabama Conference was able to lend support to those affected by Hurricane Michael on October 10, 2018, in Panama City, Florida.
The Southeast Alabama Conference partnered with the Rev. Charletta Robinson, the pastor of Greater Bethel AME Church located in the Eleventh District, under the leadership of Bishop Adam J. Richardson, Jr. and Episcopal Supervisor Connie Richardson, and provided hot food and non-perishable items for the victims of Hurricane Michael. The Rev. Robinson and Greater Bethel have hosted several community giveaways serving over 1,000 people in the community of Panama City, Florida.
Greater Bethel opened their doors to the community multiple times including on December 8, 2018, for the Southeast Alabama Conference. Not only did they welcome the conference but they also assisted in serving.
Presiding elders, consultants, pastors, ministers’ spouses, WMS, lay, Sons of Allen, and YPDers of the Southeast Alabama Conference loaded cars, trucks, and vans with cookers and grills to cook chicken fingers, chicken, fish, hamburgers, hot dogs, and french fries to ensure a hot meal was provided to approximately 300 men, women, and children along with cleaning supplies, paper products, and so much more.
In addition to food and cleaning supplies, the Southeast Alabama Conference also gave turkeys, bags of groceries, blankets, clothing, and gift cards to victims to further help them with their needs. The community was very appreciative.
December 8, 2018, was an awesome day of coming together for a wonderful cause. Service was the only goal in mind. We served with excitement and joy knowing a difference was being made in the Kingdom of God.
The Rev. Tracey Horn is the pastor of Hines Chapel AME Church in Dothan, Alabama.
