Stirring Up Gifts From God
By Rev. Lana Parks Miller & Rev. Morgan Dixon, 4th Episcopal District
Sunday, June 25th was Annual Women’s Day at DuPage AME Church in Lisle, Illinois. This year’s chairperson was Chenai Okammor. On Saturday women gathered at the Sheraton Lisle Hotel for a morning of fellowship and workshops to go along with this year’s theme: Women Stirring Up Gifts From God: Power, Love & Self-Control taken from II Timothy 1:6, “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you…”
Under the pastoral leadership of Dr. James F. Miller and Rev. Lana Parks Miller, the women of DuPage have enjoyed special women’s activities for over 28 years culminating in three Annual Women’s Day worship services on Sunday. For many years, 100+ women come together to sing specially prepared music for the day. The women enjoy the fellowship of singing together each year. The Sisters In Praise dance to the glory of God and the God-anointed preaching pricks the soul and stimulates everyone in attendance. All done to the glory of God!
DuPage’s own, Rev. Dr. Geneace Williams, Esq., started the morning at 7 am preaching from the theme text as she recalled “Mama’s Legacy.” She reminded us of those faithful women in our lives who have made a difference through their testimonies. Rev. Dr. Gwendolyn E. Boyd, former International President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Associate Minister at Ebenezer AME Church, Ft. Washington, MD preached everyone happy at the 8:15 am & 11:15 am Worship Services. She stirred up the gifts of those present, challenging all to use their gifts to the glory of God.
Dressed in various shades of purple with a myriad of colorful accents, the congregation was stirred up to glorify God and use their gifts for greater purpose.
